The following map shows some of the surrounding area of the city of Gottschee.

The following picture is of Kukendorf
. It was the home village of Ridy Högler Skyrme; We display it here with her kind permission. I have never visited Kukendorf, but I hear quite a bit about it from my penpal Ridy.

The closest I ever got to Kukendorf was an outing of some sort in Ebenthal. I am the sitting boy in the center facing the camera.

Hasenfeld and Schwartzenbach were closer to home. We often went there for a visit. My great uncle Stalzer lived in Vienna but had a summer home in Schwartzenbach. It was he who encouraged my Viennese grandparents to settle in Gottschee.

Another village that I am somewhat familiar with is Rieg.

Rieg was the place among others where the Singverein used to have meetings. The following picture shows Dr. Arko in the center.

You did not have to leave the city to feel the country side. The following view is of the Rosenbrunen which is practically in the city.
