This is what Gottschee looked like in the late 30's. I believe the logs at the bottom of the picture are associated with the Zurl family's lumber business.

The two fishermen in the boat are my father, Richard Rom a country lawyer in Gottschee. His fishing buddy is Eppich, our local plumber.

Here is my "Elternhaus". I lived there from October 1934 until January 7th 1942. My mother Hildegard, my sister Inge, and my aunt are standing on the balcony. Our maid Hilde is peeking through the door.

The Elementary School I attended was right across the walkway in front of our house. I still remember my "Leiterwagen".
